AMP Capital has appointed Afrim Ponik to the new role of portfolio manager in the fixed income team (credit markets research) based in its Chicago office.

This position is an important milestone for AMP Capital and highlights the growing importance of its United States presence in managing global portfolios.

The Chicago-based investment team oversees A$3 billion on behalf of clients in global real estate investment trusts (REITs) and global fixed income portfolios.

Mr Ponik’s appointment brings AMP Capital’s Chicago-based fixed income team to three, with a total of eight employees in the office.

Mr Ponik will provide coverage of the transportation, utilities and pipeline sectors, covering up to 50 global companies.

AMP Capital Head of Fixed Income Mark Beardow said: “The appointment of Afrim further enhances our credit research and analysis capability and will deepen our coverage of global issuers.

“This new role reflects the growth in our global client base and recognises the increased demand for income from industries such as utilities, natural gas pipelines, energy, transport and telecommunications, media and technology,” Mr Beardow said.

Mr Ponik joins AMP Capital from PPM America where he was vice president of credit research covering the aerospace, defence, transportation, infrastructure and automotive sectors.

He commenced his new role Monday 1 April 2013 and reports to Senior Portfolio Manager Sonia Baillie.

AMP Capital’s fixed income team is one of the largest in Australia and New Zealand, with over 25 investment professionals who manage A$43.7 billion in funds under management (as at 31 December 2012). The team offers clients a range of products from active core fixed income to corporate bond and credit strategies across Australian and international bond markets.
