AMP Board elects Catherine Brenner as Chairman

AMP Limited today announced that Catherine Brenner has been elected Chairman of AMP Limited Board as of 24 June 2016.

Ms Brenner joined the AMP Limited Board in 2010 and was until recently the Chairman of AMP Life and NMLA. She holds directorships with Boral and Coca-Cola Amatil and was formerly a senior investment banker and corporate lawyer.

Ms Brenner said that she was honoured to be appointed Chairman of a company which is dedicated to delivering better outcomes for its customers and improving returns for shareholders.

“The board and management team remain focused on the delivery of AMP’s strategy – transforming its core Australian business to be more customer centred, continuing its focus on efficiency and agility and capitalising on its investment strengths and capability to grow internationally.”

Ms Brenner also said that the board remains committed to expanding the skills and capability of its membership.

“We have a highly skilled board but expect to make additional appointments to further strengthen our collective background, perspective and experience against the strategy.”

Outgoing Chairman John Palmer said the board had given its strong and unanimous support for Catherine’s appointment.

The AMP Limited Board also thanked John Palmer for acting as interim Chairman. Mr Palmer had postponed his retirement from the board to oversee the appointment and transition to a new Chair.

“John retires today with our best wishes and gratitude for his contribution of more than 10 years on the boards of AMP and its subsidiaries,” said Ms Brenner.

Catherine Brenner biography

A Director of AMP Limited since June 2010, Ms Brenner is also Chairman of the Nomination and Governance Committee. Until recently, she was Chairman of AMP Life and NMLA, first joining the subsidiary board in May 2009 and was a member of their Audit Committees and Risk Committees.

Ms Brenner is a former senior investment banker and corporate lawyer with experience in corporate advisory and equity capital markets having been Managing Director, Investment Banking at ABN AMRO.

She is currently a Director of Boral and Coca-Cola Amatil, a Panel Member of Adara Partners and a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Ms Brenner was previously a Director of Centennial Coal Company Limited, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and a Trustee at the Sydney Opera House.

Ms Brenner has a Bachelor of Economics, a Bachelor of Laws, both from Macquarie University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
