Cash is an integral part of building a diversified investment portfolio and forms an important part of many investors’ portfolios, particularly those seeking capital preservation or have a short investment timeframe.

Our philosophy and process

  • Investment philosophy

Primarily cash funds should provide liquidity and extremely low levels of volatility. There are, however, opportunities for active management to add value through a combination of interest rate and credit strategies.

  • Investment process

Through active management, using both interest rate and credit strategies, our experienced fixed interest team aims to generate low risk returns by investing in a variety of money market and other short-term fixed interest securities, as well as liquid floating rate notes. The investment team considers the outlook for monetary policy, economic fundamentals, market sentiment, fund flows, and relative value between the cash rate and other securities with shorter maturities on the yield curve, in determining the selection of suitable assets.

  • Team

The cash portfolio is managed by AMP Capital’s New Zealand Fixed Income team based in Wellington. The team is led by Vicky Hyde-Smith and has over 50 years’ combined investment experience. It is part of AMP Capital’s wider Australasian fixed income team.
