AMP Capital, on behalf of investors in its infrastructure equity strategy, has entered into an agreement to acquire several electric bus projects and concessions in Santiago, Chile and Bogota, Colombia, in a transaction that will significantly grow AMP Capital’s e-mobility investment platform to represent the largest privately-owned transit electric bus fleet in the Americas.
AMP Capital will acquire the projects from Enel X, with whom it formed an 80/20 joint venture in 2020 to establish an e-mobility platform in the Americas. As part of the transaction AMP Capital will buy out Enel X’s 20 per cent interest in the Chilean joint venture.
The projects include the provision of certain electric bus fleets and charging infrastructure in the Red Metropolitana de Movilidad public transit system of Santiago, Chile and the TransMilenio Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system of Bogota, Colombia.
Anthony Hadley, Principal, AMP Capital, said: “These investments further increase the scale of our e-mobility investment platform and support the decarbonization of public transportation and reduction in urban air pollution in the Americas.
“As an early investor in green mobility, AMP Capital is pleased to support the clean-energy transition through investments in high quality public and private infrastructure assets globally.”
The transactions are expected to reach financial close by 31 January 2023, subject to customary conditions.
