AMP Capital has today announced that Michael Gray has been appointed to the role of Head of Investments, NZ effective from 27 April 2021. This is an interim position until October 2021, as AMP Capital progresses its strategy to explore sale or partnership options for its Global Equities and Fixed Income (GEFI) business.

Based in Auckland, Mr Gray will work closely with the wider AMP Capital team to incorporate global asset strategy into local portfolios, as well as ensuring AMP Capital’s diversified fund range meet the expectations of New Zealand clients. He will report to AMP Capital New Zealand Managing Director / Head of Clients, Rebekah Swan.

Michael is the founder of MJ Gray Consulting Limited, a boutique firm offering tailored investment strategy and governance services built on high-quality research and broad investment knowledge. Prior to establishing the consultancy business Michael has had an extensive career in the New Zealand and Australian funds management industry, most recently as Senior Portfolio Manager with Caliber Investments from 2015 to 2020. Prior to this he was an Investment Manager at Suncorp from 2013 to 2015, and Head of Investment Strategy at CommInsure from 2007 to 2013. Michael has also had portfolio manager roles with ASB Group Investments and JB Were Goldman Sachs.

Ms Swan said she was pleased to have such an experienced candidate joining AMP Capital’s New Zealand business.

“This is a key appointment for the New Zealand business, working in partnership with our New Zealand and global investment teams to achieve outstanding results for our clients. I welcome Michael’s appointment and look forward to him stepping into the role,” Ms Swan said.

Mr Gray commented: “I look forward to working with the AMP Capital team.
