Our Japan business has achieved an outstanding success in managing funds for retail investors in Japan. Funds under management sourced from Japan amounted to more than A$6 billion (as of 31 March 2010), and we also participated in the launch of the first global REIT fund in Japan.

Our dedicated on the ground Japan team conducts marketing and sales activities to toshin companies and distributors such as banks and securities companies, offering tailored investment solutions to Japan retail investors.

As well as having a dedicated property business in Japan, the team also actively works with institutional investors such as public pension funds, corporate pension funds and financial institutions.

Toshiaki Yamashita

Toshiaki Yamashita

Managing Director, Japan

Toshiaki Yamashita joined AMP Capital in July 2009 and is Managing Director for Japan. Mr Yamashita joined AMP Capital from Gemini Advisors Securities Investments, where he was Director, Head of Retail Business Japan, responsible for exclusively promoting AMP Capital to the Japanese market. Mr Yamashita has over 20 years experience in the investment management industry, having worked with a diverse range of international and domestic companies. Mr Yamashita holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, a Bachelor of Law from Kyoto University, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also a Chartered Member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (CMA).

Kazuhiro Hayashi

Kazuhiro Hayashi

Head of Institutional Business, Japan

Kazuhiro Hayashi joined AMP Capital in May 2008 to head up institutional business development in the country. He is based in our Tokyo office, where he is focused on establishing our business and developing and maintaining key institutional relationships. Mr Hayashi has over 20 years of experience in the institutional business. Mr Hayashi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Nihon University. Mr Hayashi is also a member of The Society for Pension Study of Japan.

Hiroaki Kitamoto

Hiroaki Kitamoto

Director of Institutional Business, Japan

Hiroaki Kitamoto joined AMP Capital in October 2008, and is responsible for business development with institutional clients in Japan. Mr Kitamoto brings 22 years of broad experience in both traditional asset classes and alternative products. Mr Kitamoto holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from International Christian University, and an MBA in Finance & Marketing from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Senior Retail Distribution Sales Manager, Japan

Hiroaki Iwasaki joined AMP Capital in 2009 and is responsible for business development activities in Japan. Mr Iwasaki has over ten years experience in the investment management industry with significant experience in product, sales and marketing strategy. Mr Iwasaki holds a Masters of Business Administration (Finance) from Hitotsubashi University and a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from Gakushuin University.

Futoshi Shishika

Futoshi Shishika

Head of Property, Japan

Futoshi Shishika commenced as Head of Property with AMP Capital Investors Japan KK on 1 December 2007, bringing 25 years of experience to his role. Ten of these were attained working in the US, including roles in funds management, acquisitions and asset management and development project management. Mr Shishika was previously President of Simplex REIT Partners where he was responsible for the management of the J-REIT Operating Company. Prior to which, he was Managing Director with Moore Strategic Value Partners Japan, a Japanese subsidiary of a US hedge fund. Mr Shishika gained extensive knowledge and skills in funds management, primarily focusing on distressed asset investment. He has formed a broad network in the Japanese real estate industry through his 21 years of experience in Sumitomo Realty and Development Company, where he has held positions including General Manager of the Corporate Planning Department, Assistant General Manager of the Housing Department and President of Sumitomo Realty and Development New York.
